If you’re familiar with Indiana, than you probably know about the endless fields of corn and ever changing weather. You might think twice about one of the most popular mountain bike destinations in the U.S. being here, but believe it or not the local mountain bike organization has managed to build a world-class trail system in one of the most beautiful, contiguous hardwood forests in the Midwest.
With over 25 miles of trail (and growing) for every rider from the first timer to the most advanced, Brown County State Park in Nashville, IN should be near the top on every mountain biker’s “must do” list.
Mad March took a trip to Brown County in June to help out at the Midwest Women’s Mountain Bike Clinic, an annual event that brings in women from across the country. It was the perfect excuse for five Mad March coaches to get together and share our IMIC teaching techniques with over 100 women (and some men) throughout the event.
Shaums March, Derrick Maready and Gale Dahlager arrived a few days early to lead the first U.S. public offered International Mountain Bike Instructor Certification (IMIC) courses. Brown County was the perfect venue and no matter what the weather, and there was definitely some crazy weather, we were able to certify 17 new IMIC Rider Leaders and Instructors.
Shaums, Derrick and Gale were joined by Mad March coaches Matt and Tamara Pelquin for the weekend to help organize and lead the newly certified coaching staff at the largest women’s mountain bike clinic in the U.S.
This was a great opportunity for Mad March to reach an entirely new group of riders of all ages and skill levels. We can’t wait to do it again next year! Check out all the great photos at http://madmarchinc.com/gallery/
We’ll be heading back to Brown County August 7-8, 2010 for another great event on one of the best trail systems around! www.sub9superd.com
