International Mountain Bike Instructor Certifications

IMIC levels of Certification:

  1. IMIC Ride Leader
  2. IMIC Instructor
  3. IMIC Coach
  4. IMIC Master Coach

The International Mountainbike Instructor Certification (BeIMIC) is the industry leading mountain bike certification provider born out of the first ever mountain bike certification program – the CMIC (Canadian Mountainbike Instructor Certification). The CMIC was established in 1995 and has taught mountain biking to over 4000 individuals of all ages and skill levels since its inception. The standardized IMIC program follows the same techniques and guidelines as the Canadian certification and is recognized internationally.

The IMIC program offers four(4) levels of certification: Ride Leader, Instructor, Coach and Master Coach. To obtain an IMIC certification an individual will need to meet the requirements of the certification level, successfully complete the class, and pass the certification test (written and practical).


IMIC Certification Licenses

Licenses will be provided upon successful completion of each course and provides the following benefits:

  • Industry recognition as a legitimate mountain bike guide, instructor or coach certified to meet international safety standards and trained to use the tested, proven IMIC methodologies
  • Officially recognized on the IMIC website as a certified Ride Leader, Instructor, Coach or Master Coach
  • The option to have your information on the IMIC site link directly to your email or business website
  • The option to utilize our coaching insurance company
  • Invitation to the annual IMIC Conference dedicated to global coaching standards, continuous coaching improvements, and key strategies for maximizing coaching revenue.

IMIC Ride Leader

The IMIC Ride Leader certification is the first level of certification offered. This is a one-day course (7-8 hours) designed to train, prepare and certify bike guides to lead mountain bike tours, groups and provide support to IMIC Instructors and Coaches. Once obtained, the IMIC Ride Leaders certification qualifies an individual to:

  • Lead individual or group mountain bike rides
  • Provide trail side repair and support (fix flat, broken chain, shifting adjustments)
  • Support IMIC Instructors, Coaches, and Master Coaches at clinics/camps/events
  • Meets one of the IMIC Instructor requirements

Requirements:

  • At least 18 years old
  • 3+ years mountain biking experience
  • Basic First Aid certification
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Passionate about riding and a strong desire to help others have more fun and progress safely

IMIC Instructor

The IMIC Instructor certification is the second level of certification.  This three-day course (7-8 hours per day) is designed to train, prepare and certify mountain bike coaches to guide mountain bike groups and conduct beginner level coaching.  Once obtained, the IMIC Instructor certification qualifies an individual to:

  • Lead individual or group mountain bike rides
  • Provide trail side repair support (fix flat, broken chain, shifting adjustments)
  • Provide mountain bike instruction on bike basics
  • Provide private instruction for beginner level riders
  • Organize and instruct beginner level clinics/camps/events
  • Provide appropriate bike set up recommendations (bar/seat height, brake/shifter positioning, basic compression & rebound settings)
  • Support IMIC Coaches and Master Coaches at clinics/camps/events

Requirements:

  • 5+ years mountain biking experience
  • Basic First Aid certification
  • Current IMIC Ride Leader certification and experience or proven ability approved by IMIC Master Coach
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Passionate about riding and a strong desire to help others have more fun and progress safely.

IMIC Coach

 The IMIC Coach certification is the third level of certification.  This four-day course (7-8 hours per day) is designed to train, prepare and certify mountain bike coaches to guide mountain bike groups and conduct beginner through advanced level coaching.  Once obtained, the IMIC Coach certification qualifies an individual to:

  • Lead individual or group mountain bike rides
  • Provide trail side repair support (fix flat, broken chain, shifting adjustments)
  • Provide appropriate bike set up recommendations (bar/seat height, brake/shifter positioning, basic compression & rebound settings)
  • Provide mountain bike coaching on bike basics and advanced bike handling
  • Organize, lead and coach beginner to intermediate clinics/camps/events
  • Provide private coaching for all levels of riding
  • Support IMIC Master Coaches at clinics/camps/events
  • Support IMIC Master Coaches when certifying other coaches

Requirements:

  • 5+ years mountain biking experience
  • Basic First Aid certification
  • Current IMIC Instructor certification or proven ability approved by IMIC Master Coach
  • 40+ hours experience as an Instructor
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Passionate about riding and a strong desire to help others have more fun and progress safely.

IMIC Master Coach

The IMIC Master Coach certification is the highest level of certification.  This five-day course (7-8 hours per day) is designed to train, prepare and certify mountain bike coaches to guide mountain bike groups and conduct beginner thru advanced level coaching and certify others through the IMIC program.  Once obtained, the IMIC Master Coach certification qualifies an individual to:

  • Lead individual or group mountain bike rides
  •  Provide trail side repair support (fix flat, broken chain, shifting adjustments)
  • Provide appropriate bike set up recommendations (bar/seat height, brake/shifter positioning, basic compression & rebound settings)
  • Provide mountain bike coaching on all bike skills for all levels of riders
  • Organize, lead and coach all levels of camps/clinics/events
  • Certify Ride Leaders, Instructors and Coaches
  • 5 day course

IMIC Master Coach Requirements:

  • 10+ years mountain biking experience
  • Basic First Aid certification
  • Wilderness First Aid certification *(if coaching more than 3 hrs away from medical facilities)
  • Current IMIC Coach certification
  • 100+ hrs experience coaching, 40 of which occurred within the last year.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Passionate about riding and a strong desire to help others have more fun and progress safely.

IMIC Course Pricing:

Ride Leader $199 per person 1 day course Register
Instructor $599 per person 2.5 to 3 day course Register
Coach $799 per person 3.5 to 4 day course Register
Master Coach $999 per person 5 day course Register

Course fee does not include the following:

  1. IMIC manual cost which is $50 for Ride Leader and $100 for Instructor, Coach & Master Coach.
  2. IMIC certification licensing fee of $50 for your initial license and then $100 annual renewal
